NYC Mayor Stands Up for Crypto
New York City Mayor Eric Adams has taken a stand for crypto, innovation, and the direction of NYC into the future.
As if by magic, following on Vault’s post yesterday about New York State’s disappointing choice to forward a moratorium on bitcoin mining, Adams spoke at the Crypto and Digital Assets Summit:
“The most important thing is to listen to those within the industry, because this is relatively new and sometimes we are fearful when it comes to new technologies, particularly something like cryptocurrency and blockchain.”
“It's not just a case of "thinking outside the box," Adams added, but to "destroy the box, because this is a new way of looking at the world; this global business in our city, goods and services.” [Decrypt]
Eric Adams sees clearly. The rise and continued adoption of crypto is inevitable. The best thing that city governments can do is listen to the people who understand the technology and regulate it in a common-sense way.
Adams famously converted his first paycheck to bitcoin and ETH, and has been quoted as far back as 2015 saying that bitcoin is a “disruptive technology.”
